Why This Role Matters

As a Senior Data Scientist – Safety & Trust, you will be at the heart of arenaflex’s mission to protect our community while unlocking the value hidden in our massive data stores. You will lead a cross‑functional team of full‑stack data engineers, analysts, and product partners to design, build, and operate a world‑class data platform that powers safety‑critical features, advanced analytics, and strategic decision‑making across the organization.

This is a fully remote, full‑time position open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Whether you prefer a home office, a co‑working space, or occasional visits to one of our physical hubs, arenaflex offers the flexibility you need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Strategy & Architecture: Translate complex safety and trust requirements into scalable data pipelines, storage solutions, and tooling that serve the entire organization.
  • Metric Development & Monitoring: Own the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety‑related metrics, dashboards, and alerting systems.
  • Data Quality & Reliability: Refactor and enhance existing data infrastructure to improve data quality, reliability, and observability, ensuring downstream teams receive trustworthy signals.
  • Automation & Efficiency: Drive productivity gains for the Safety Data Science team through automation, robust ETL processes, and reusable workflows.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Legal, Trust & Safety, and other stakeholders to align data solutions with business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Guide junior engineers and analysts, fostering a culture of best practices, code quality, and data‑driven decision making.
  • Open‑Source & Community Engagement: Contribute to open‑source data tools and share learnings with the broader data science community.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience building and maintaining large‑scale ETL frameworks in production environments.
  • Expertise in Python and strong proficiency with SQL (including complex joins, window functions, and performance tuning).
  • Hands‑on experience designing, implementing, and operating data warehouses or lakehouses at scale (e.g., Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift).
  • Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable, object‑oriented code in a collaborative, version‑controlled setting.
  • Proven track record of translating ambiguous business problems into concrete data models and analytical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence cross‑functional partners at all levels of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Haves

  • Experience with data streaming technologies such as Apache Airflow, Kafka, or similar orchestration tools.
  • Background in safety, trust, or moderation analytics, including exposure to privacy‑preserving data practices.
  • Contributions to open‑source projects or participation in data‑focused community events.
  • Familiarity with machine‑learning pipelines and model monitoring in production.
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect large, noisy datasets and extract actionable insights.
  • Problem Solving: Creative approach to building robust, fault‑tolerant data systems.
  • Collaboration: Strong team player who thrives in a remote, distributed environment.
  • Ownership: Self‑starter who takes end‑to‑end responsibility for projects, from conception to production.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating fast‑changing priorities and ambiguous requirements.
