Role Overview – Senior Data Engineer, Voice of Customer (VOC) Analytics

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of our Voice of Customer (VOC) analytics platform. This role is pivotal in transforming raw survey data into actionable insights that drive strategic decisions across the organization. The position is fully remote (with optional hybrid options) and is based in Costa Rica, offering a competitive hourly rate of $35 and a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product owners, data scientists, and cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest, cleanse, and enrich VOC survey data from multiple sources, including the arenaflex Survey & Dashboard platform.
  • Develop and optimize data models and schemas that support real‑time and batch analytics, ensuring high performance and reliability.
  • Implement advanced analytics solutions using Hadoop, HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, Spark, and Python to enable predictive modeling and trend analysis.
  • Automate data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms to guarantee data integrity and compliance with governance standards.
  • Lead the migration of legacy data processes to modern cloud‑native architectures, leveraging containerization and orchestration tools where appropriate.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning within the data engineering team.
  • Partner with the arenaflex Agile Delivery team to deliver incremental product releases, ensuring rapid feedback loops and continuous improvement.
  • Document architecture decisions, data lineage, and operational procedures to support knowledge sharing and auditability.
  • Stay abreast of emerging data technologies and industry best practices, recommending enhancements that keep arenaflex at the forefront of VOC analytics.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of hands‑on experience designing and implementing data pipelines in Hadoop ecosystems (Hive, Spark, PySpark).
  • Proficiency in Python and Shell scripting for data transformation, automation, and orchestration.
  • Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, data warehousing concepts, and data modeling techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with ETL/ELT tools and frameworks, preferably open‑source or cloud‑based solutions.
  • Solid grasp of Agile methodology, with a track record of delivering incremental value in fast‑moving environments.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities, with a focus on root‑cause analysis and proactive remediation.
  • Effective communication skills—both written and verbal—to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English; Spanish proficiency is a plus given the Costa Rica location.
