Join arenaflex: Build the Data Backbone of Global Retail Innovation

At arenaflex, we believe data is more than numbers — it is the lifeblood of intelligent business decisions, customer experiences, and operational excellence. As a global leader recognized among the world’s top employers, arenaflex has built its reputation on a unique blend of enterprise-scale innovation and a deeply human, employee-first culture. Our technical teams power some of the most complex retail ecosystems on the planet, and we are now looking for a talented, driven, and visionary Remote Data Engineer – Data Analytics to join our distributed workforce.

This is not just another data engineering role. This is your opportunity to architect the pipelines, models, and integrations that will shape how a Fortune-tier organization understands its customers, optimizes its supply chain, and delivers actionable insight at unprecedented speed. If you thrive in high-velocity environments, love solving complex data challenges, and want the flexibility of a home-based career without sacrificing world-class project work, we want to hear from you.

About arenaflex and the Industry We Serve

arenaflex operates at the intersection of retail, technology, and customer-centric innovation. The retail industry is undergoing a profound digital transformation — one driven by cloud computing, real-time analytics, machine learning, and an insatiable demand for trustworthy, well-modeled data. From inventory optimization and personalized marketing to dynamic pricing and global logistics, the decisions that define market leaders are now made with data.

Our organization processes petabytes of structured and unstructured data sourced from point-of-sale systems, e-commerce platforms, supplier APIs, IoT devices, and customer touchpoints across multiple continents. We do not simply store this data; we transform it into a strategic asset. As a Data Engineer on our team, you will be central to that mission.

Position Summary

The Remote Data Engineer – Data Analytics at arenaflex is responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and operationalization of data pipelines that power analytics, business intelligence, and advanced data services across the enterprise. You will work closely with Data Architects, Data Scientists, BI Engineers, Product Owners, and DevOps teams to build scalable, reliable, and automated data flows from a diverse array of internal and external sources.

This role sits within our modern data platform practice, where we use industry-leading tools such as Informatica PowerCenter, Informatica IICS (Cloud), Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, ADLS, Kafka, and a robust suite of orchestration, modeling, and quality tools. You will be expected to bring deep technical fluency, strong architectural instincts, and a passion for clean, performant data design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Architecture & Development: Design, build, test, and operationalize scalable ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest data from SQL, Oracle, flat files (CSV, delimited), XML, and Web APIs into our enterprise data warehouse and lake environments.
  • Data Modeling Collaboration: Partner with Data Modelers and Data Architects to design and maintain optimal data models, schemas, and structures that support BI dashboards, advanced analytics, and downstream services.
  • Cloud Engineering: Leverage Azure services — including Azure SQL Data Warehouse (Synapse), Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Event Hub, and Azure Data Factory — to accelerate delivery of high-quality data products.
  • Data Quality & Validation: Implement robust data quality frameworks, validation rules, and reconciliation processes to ensure trusted, accurate, and timely data delivery across the organization.
  • Process Automation: Identify, design, and execute internal process improvements — automating manual workflows, streamlining data delivery, and reducing time-to-insight for business stakeholders.
  • Big Data & NoSQL Solutions: Develop high-performance data processing platforms that integrate structured and unstructured data, enabling high-value insights across the enterprise.
  • Metadata & Documentation: Contribute to the development of data dictionaries, data taxonomies, and architectural documentation to support discoverability, governance, and onboarding.
  • Database Administration: Manage database architecture, including software installation, upgrades, performance tuning, and capacity monitoring. Track database activity and resource utilization to proactively address issues.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences — both in writing and in live conversation.
  • Peer Review & Mentorship: Conduct code and design reviews for fellow Data Engineers, offering constructive feedback that elevates team-wide quality.
  • Ad-Hoc Analytics Support: Lead exploratory data retrieval efforts to support urgent business reporting, executive dashboards, and strategic initiatives.
  • Data Source Integrity: Review and validate the integrity of data from multiple sources, flagging anomalies and recommending remediation strategies.
  • CI/CD Collaboration: Work closely with DevOps Engineers to integrate data pipelines into continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience engineering and operationalizing data pipelines with large, complex datasets in an enterprise setting.
  • Informatica PowerCenter: 3+ years of production experience designing, developing, and maintaining workflows in Informatica PowerCenter.
  • Informatica IICS: 3+ years of experience building cloud-based integrations using Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services.
  • Data Modeling & Warehousing: 3+ years of experience with dimensional data modeling, ETL design patterns, and modern data warehousing principles.
  • Cloud Ecosystem: 3+ years working with cloud technologies such as ADLS, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Databricks Live Tables, Spark, Azure Synapse, Cosmos DB, and adjacent big data tools.
  • Data Source Fluency: Extensive experience working with relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle), flat files (CSV, delimited), XML, and Web APIs.
  • Advanced SQL: Strong, demonstrable SQL skills with the ability to write complex, performant queries against multiple data sources and schemas.
  • Storage Architecture Knowledge: Solid understanding of data lake architectures, relational databases, NoSQL systems, graph databases, and enterprise data warehousing.
  • Agile Mindset: Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, agile development environment with shifting priorities and rapid delivery cycles.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to support business needs including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on-call emergency rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Certifications: Current Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect) are highly desirable.
  • Event-Driven Architecture: Experience with event- or message-based integration patterns using Kafka, Azure Event Hub, or similar technologies.
  • DevOps Tooling: Hands-on experience with Git, Azure DevOps, and infrastructure-as-code practices for data platforms.
  • Agile Delivery: Proven track record of delivering data solutions through agile software development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Retail Domain Knowledge: Prior exposure to retail data, merchandising systems, supply chain platforms, or customer analytics.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • SAP Integration: Experience working with SAP integration tools, including SAP BODS (Business Objects Data Services).
  • Job Scheduling: Familiarity with UC4 Job Scheduler or similar enterprise orchestration tools.

Skills & Competencies for Success

Beyond the technical requirements, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a blend of analytical rigor, creative problem-solving, and collaborative spirit. You should be naturally curious, constantly seeking better ways to model data, optimize pipelines, and reduce friction for the business. You take ownership of your work, advocate for quality, and thrive in environments where autonomy and accountability coexist.

You should be equally comfortable writing complex SQL, diagramming a new ingestion architecture, leading a peer review session, and explaining a data latency issue to a product manager. Your communication style is clear, your documentation is thorough, and your curiosity never sleeps.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

At arenaflex, career development is not a buzzword — it is a strategic priority. As a Data Engineer, you will have access to:

  • A personalized learning and development budget for certifications, conferences, and advanced training.
  • Mentorship from senior architects and principal engineers who have built petabyte-scale platforms.
  • Defined career ladders with clear progression into roles such as Senior Data Engineer, Data Architect, Platform Engineering Lead, and Engineering Manager.
  • Cross-functional exposure to data science, machine learning engineering, and analytics product development.
  • Internal communities of practice where engineers share patterns, run book clubs, and contribute to open-source initiatives.

Work Environment & Company Culture

arenaflex is proud to be consistently recognized as one of the world’s best employers. Our culture is built on respect, integrity, and a commitment to the well-being of every team member. Even as a remote employee, you will be deeply connected to the broader organization through virtual team rituals, regular all-hands meetings, and intentional community-building events.

We work hard, but we also value balance. Flexible scheduling, generous paid time off, and a results-oriented mindset mean that you are evaluated by the impact you deliver — not the hours you sit at a desk. Our distributed teams are equipped with the tools, processes, and leadership support they need to do their best work from anywhere.

Compensation, Perks & Benefits

arenaflex offers a competitive compensation package that reflects the value of your skills and experience. This position is currently benchmarked at approximately $26 per hour, with opportunities for performance-based increases, annual reviews, and long-term incentive programs.

Our benefits typically include:

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Generous paid time off, holidays, and personal wellness days.
  • Retirement savings plans with company match.
  • Employee assistance programs and mental health resources.
  • Home office stipend and ergonomic support.
  • Discounts on arenaflex products and services.
  • Paid parental leave and family-building benefits.
  • Tuition reimbursement and continuous learning stipends.
