BI Engineer / Data Analyst, Senior

As part of the EASS eCMS program supporting modernization and sustainment of VA acquisition systems, the Senior BI Engineer / Data Analyst designs and develops dashboards, reports, data models, analytics, and visualizations that provide operational insight and support enterprise decision-making. This role performs data validation, modeling, profiling, and analysis while collaborating with stakeholders to produce accurate and actionable analytics. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build, maintain, and enhance dashboards, reports, and analytics solutions using enterprise data sources.
  • Analyze stakeholder needs and translate them into structured reporting requirements and data models.
  • Conduct data validation and profiling to ensure completeness, accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
  • Design SQL queries, transformations, and data structures that support analytics and reporting.
  • Document data logic, definitions, lineage, mapping, and assumptions.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, SMEs, and technical teams to refine metrics, KPIs, and reporting frameworks.
  • Support testing of reporting logic, data transformations, and system upgrades impacting reports.
  • Monitor data pipelines and address issues related to data quality or logic discrepancies.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to backlog refinement for data-related needs.
  • Provide analytical insight and recommendations to stakeholders based on data analysis.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years in BI engineering, data analytics, or data engineering roles.
  • Strong SQL experience including query optimization, data modeling, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with enterprise reporting tools such as Power BI or equivalent platforms.
  • Understanding of relational database structures, data transformations, and analytic modeling.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and debugging skills related to data workflows.
  • Ability to collaborate across technical and functional domains and communicate findings clearly.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

  • Experience working with Federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Familiarity with ETL pipelines, data orchestration, or event-driven data flows.
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality, and metadata management.
  • Experience working in environments built on Azure, .NET, SQL Server, IIS, and related VA enterprise technologies.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

CLEARANCE:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

  • Remote
